How can your body replicate the feeling of falling from high altitudes in a nightmare if you’ve never fallen like that before?

I don’t know but I don’t like this post.

@hfc2x can explain better, but theoretically it’s because our early ancestors slept in trees because High Is Better when avoiding predators while asleep, but comes with the added danger of falling. the humans who survived were the ones who learned to recognize when they were beginning to fall and save themselves before they were even fully awake, and they passed that instinct down to their offspring. that’s why, when you fall asleep too hard/quickly, your brain is programmed to wake you up again so you don’t end up falling to your death.
