unpopular opinion: jimmy carter was actually a good presidents and one of the only if not the only good president the US has had in the past 70 years.

neocons and neoliberals hated him for his soft-spoken diplomacy and general preference to not interfere in foreign countries militarily or economically – and for being rather outspoken and a political outsider

people try to blame the state of the US economy at the time on him – but in reality he inherited a mess. quite literally 90% of economic fallout on him can be largely attributed to decisions by nixon and ford, such as going off the gold standard, backing the yom kippur war, provoking OPEC, etc.

meanwhile carter pushed through an 11% across the board pay raise for all service members – something no president has done before or since.

he is the only president to have brokered a lasting peace in the middle east with israel and egypt

he was an outspoken supporter of renewable energy – installing solar panels on the white house (which everyone’s favorite neocon reagan removed to epicly own the libtards awesome style) – although admittedly I dislike his hesitancy around nuclear power.

founded, actively participated in and still participates in at the age of 93) the “habitats for humanity” nonprofit organization in which homes are built for those without shelter – helping build more than 800,000 homes.

conducted the panama canal treaties – returning the panama canal zone to panama, a nation that had been severely hindered by the division of it’s nation by it’s creation – a zone which had been seized through subversive means and countless violations of a nation’s sovereignty.

it’s pretty funny that things he did like deregulating transport and appointing volker as the chairman of the reserve didn’t really payoff until Reagan’s term – and he got all the credit for it.

all in all considering the fact that he was probably one of the most honest and outspoken US presidents in the contemporary world – as well as possibly the one one who didn’t seek conflict, he doesn’t deserve to be as smeared as he was by the media and his legacy so forgotten – although it’s good to see he’s been living a quiet life doing the same thing he did before entering office – flipping bricks, wearing sweaters, and resting on the same peanut farm living the same way he always did. be well jimmy.

tldr; don’t bully jimmy carter thanks

appreciate his peanut

Jimmy Carter was a good man, which immediately sets him up to be disliked as the US President, a job that requires you to be a scheming bag of slime. Hence his low popularity (59% disapproval, 28% approval in ‘79).
