Apparently one of the writers for the film in an interview admitted that in the original script, the characters were, in fact, gay lovers but other people working at Dreamworks bitched about, so they were forced to remove the pet names (which were going to be the implication that they were lovers), but pretty much everything else was kept, so technically… they are lovers. In the Spanish distributed version, if you put on English subtitles, the pet names are still there LMAOOOO
Even the creators knew it and the gifs from the last four and second and fourth gifs are from an episode that was basically created just to give all of us Kigo shippers as much as they could in the way of canon at the tme
I’m honestly still amazed how obvious they managed to make it…these were the days long before shows like Adventure Time and Steven Universe were starting to help normalise the idea of queer representation in all ages media…AND this was a Disney show so it was probably a thousand times harder to get ANY hint of canon queerness out there
