Stop Sexualising Aphrodite. Stop Making Aphrodite Trand-phobic!
I have seen this over and over and over. Young and old witches do this, not just beginners, but people who call themselves experienced and well rounded in this community. It’s disgusting and has to stop.
Aphrodite is the goddess of love, beauty, and procreation. She is not the goddess of women, or of pussy.
People are treating her as the goddess of sex and woman, especially women protrayed in a sexual way, and this is just not what she represents. For example, the other day I saw a post titled “Aphrodite wants you to love your pussy,” and then went on to say, “Your vagina, vulva, clit, and all.” ???
???
Since when is she the goddess of pussy???
Furthermore, posts that begin with things like the above tend to go on to say or have comments stating that she only cares about or loves female women. This is not true. APHRODITE IS NOT THE GODDESS OF WOMEN OR FEMALES. SHE IS THE GODDESS OF LOVE, BEAUTY, AND PROCREATION.
You cannot exclude trans women from worshipping Aphrodite. You cannot exclude men, males, or transmen from worshipping Aphrodite. And STOP reducing her to be “the goddess of pussy.” It’s disrespectful and really offends people who take their religion seriously.
Keep your transphobic, third wave feminist rhetoric out of Pagan, Wiccan, and witchcraft communities!
The very definition of irony is that fact that someone literally commented a link to their porn, asking me to promo their nudes.
Weren’t some of the priestesses of Aphrodite trans?
Yes, in fact, there were. There is a lot of inclusion for trans people regarding Aphrodite.
Aphroditus is the androgynous aspect of Aphrodite. They were portrayed as having a feminine bosy and shape; womanly hips and waist, breasts, a female face; but also a phallus. It is said that they are tied to the moon, and through their sacrifice, men and women exchanged clothing.
In later mythogogy, Apdrodite was said to have had a son whose was born to herself and Hermes, and was called a combination of their names: Hermaphroditus. Hermaphroditus was uninterested in love and shy, but one day whilst in the woods, he found a lake in which there was a nymph. She fell deeply in love with him and prayed that they would never be seporated. An unknown god answered her prayed, though not in the way she wanted. Their bodies became fused together and had both masculine and feminine aspects. Aphdorite raised them on high and said people like them, (trans people and intersex people) should be worshipped as symbols of fertility, thus, many of Aphrodite’s worshippers and priests being trans.
we think Greeks were a very rational people and all until we learn about the Buphonia, an Athenian ritual where a laboring ox had to be sacrificed but at the same time, this was considered a terrible crime. so when the priest killed it with an axe, he had to throw it aside and get the fuck out of there running for his life. then the rest of the people discovered the crime scene and blamed the axe, the only one present. the axe was immediately carried before the court of the Prytaneum which charged the axe with having caused the death of the ox. sometimes it was absolved, others, it was thrown into the sea,
You cannot tell me they didn’t do all of this with a sense of humor.
Athena, goddess of wisdom, watching her dumbass patron city do this shit:
Something that baffles me is when people compare Aphrodite to “bloody” goddesses (Anat, Inanna, Sekhmet, etc.) as a way to say Aphrodite is just a demure love goddess teehee, look how badass my warrior goddess is instead.
Aphrodite Ourania rose out of blood and the ocean and walked to land fully-formed. This Aphrodite is a Titaness, older even than the generation of Zeus. She has no mother. She is never an infant. She is the ultimate generative power, the fish, born from a male (upending societal norms) and wielding the power of creation and invention.
Aphrodite Areia is a war goddess – this is the title made famous by Athena and Ares, but Aphrodite does not get this title from her lover. She is a goddess of soldiers and fights on the battlefield of Troy. She is also Aphrodite Hoplismena, the armed, depicted in full armor with a shield and sword. This is the Aphrodite of Sparta.
Aphrodite Nikephoros is not only Aphrodite armored and armed, but Aphrodite commanding the power of Nike – Nike, the goddess usually found at Zeus’s side, ensuring victory. This Aphrodite is not one to be crossed on the battlefield, because you will not win.
Or maybe we just aren’t on the same page as the ancients when it comes to a “love goddess.” Aphrodite Pandemos is a goddess of frenzy, a goddess who incites war and madness, a goddess to whom it was said even the Fates would bend their will. To some Hellenes, Aphrodite was the goddess of creation because she is the spark of all love and desire – and to others, she was the creator of all.
There’s nothing wrong in calling Aphrodite a goddess of love – she is, truly. But this doesn’t make her timid. She is not clawless. She is a complex goddess, inextricably linked to the awesome war goddesses of the Ancient Near East. Do not dilute her just because you’re not familiar with her or with the domain of love goddesses. I know this may seem trivial to some people, but don’t reduce one goddess to make another look more powerful – they don’t need it.
